As one of the best international school in Shanghai, Wellington International College Shanghai provides an exciting co-curricular activities (CCA) programme for pupils to explore new activities, cultivate new interests and develop a variety of skills. Within each school of the College, CCAs are run across a range of year groups allowing pupils to connect and make friends with children of different ages. From year 1 onwards, CCAs form an integral and compulsory part of the school day.
At this international school in Shanghai, pupils will be invited to attend specialist CCAs by the heads of department to which those CCAs are attached. For other pupils, carousel CCAs are offered so that pupils experience a broad range of activities from the physical, creative and academic domains. The specific activities on offer vary by term and by the availability/expertise of our teachers, but there is always something fresh and engaging for pupils to try.
The CCA programme emphasises academic enrichment and support alongside physical and creative activities. During the academic block of the CCA programme at Wellington International College Shanghai, pupils are involved in one of four aspects:
These are held in the class/form or house rooms and are delivered by tutors. These provide extended pastoral contact time and also create a positive working environment so that pupils can be productive in getting their prep completed with appropriate guidance from their teacher where needed. In prep sessions, pupils are expected to work in silence and demonstrate independence and self-organization.
These are an exciting opportunity for pupils to take their level of understanding beyond that of the curriculum and to challenge themselves in new and interesting ways. Pupils are invited to attend enrichment sessions by the relevant heads of department.
Those deemed in need of academic support will be invited to attend. Academic support sessions can happen during lunch periods as well as in the afternoon periods.
These allow our sports teams and performing arts casts greater opportunities to train/rehearse together. There are different sports/arts focus sessions each day. Pupils involved in focus sessions carry out their activities during periods 7 and 8 (a double period).
During the Physical and Creative block of the CCA programme, pupils will select from a wide range of activities. Please note that during the Lent and Summer terms, the CCA programme commences in the second week and during the Michaelmas term it commences in the third week.
